Classified Staff Organization Meeting

April 18, 2002

The meeting was called to order by Karen Evans at 12:30 p.m.

The minutes from the February 13, 2002 meeting were approved.

Laura Moyer reported that the silent auction netted the Employee Recognition Committee a little more than $1,000.  This money was used to pay for the luncheon we were enjoying at the meeting, along with purchasing gifts to honor the CSO retirees, Jackie Ringo and Geri Waters.  Gifts were also purchased to honor Beverly Hill and Tim Baerlocher for 20 years of service and for Karen Evans honoring her service as CSO Chair.  There will also be a donation given to the Moss Family Fund.  She reminded the group that the voting for Classified Staff of the Year would close at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26.  The winner will be announced May 8 at the Faculty/Staff Social.

Janell Miller reported on the Campus Service/Employee Welfare Committee’s activities.  The committee raised $1,480 for the Santa’s Helpers program.  The group was able to buy gifts for 11 families which included 32 children.  She thanked the other committee members for all of their hard work in making this project a success.  The group recommended that next year they only accept referrals from campus employees and Health & Welfare as there was some confusion for the group this past year with referrals coming in at the last minute.

Dawn told the group about the beginning and intermediate Excel training that she did for CSO members on April 5, 2002.  She will solicit suggestions in August on which class to teach in the fall so that the arrangements can be made and plans announced at our first meeting in the fall.  She also noted that these classes do not have to be only computer based.

Doris Miles discussed the recommended changes that the President’s Commission on Diversity have suggested to the Cultural Diversity Vision Statement dated August 2000.  Doris requested that any one with suggestions or thoughts about the changes email them to her before April 26 and she will take them to the next meeting of the President’s Commission on Diversity.

Patty Leonard introduced the members that were nominated for 2002-03 CSO officers. Ballots were marked, votes counted, and the election results were as follows:

                        Chairperson                           Patty Leonard

                        Chair Elect                             Dawn Byers

                        Recording Secretary            Judy Dingman

                        Web Secretary                      Janell Miller

Karen relayed some of the problems the officers encountered as they tried to adhere to current CSO by-laws.  The most pressing problem was discussed by the group, voted on, and approved. The approval changed the time that the newly elected officers will assume their office. The officers for the 2002-03 year will take office on July 1, 2002.  A committee was formed to review the by-laws and suggest changes to be made.  The committee members are Cheryl Grim, Sara Huffman, Shannon Casteel, Ann Storch, Jennifer Weeks, and Sharon Auer.

Karen gave a recap of all the projects that have been undertaken by the CSO this year.  She thanked the members who served on committees and helped to make our voices heard in many areas of the campus community.  She also thanked her co-officers for their help.

Future meeting dates and times will be announced in the fall.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
