Classified Staff Meeting

Minutes:  Thursday, February 15, 2001

Vana Vernon chaired the meeting and distributed copies of the administration's draft proposal of their Salary Guidelines for Classified Employees.  She thanked everyone for their comments and suggestions in response to the proposal.  The major consensus of your comments was to bring present classified staff up to mid-point pay level as there are many who have been employed by LCSC ten years plus and who are still well below mid.

Vana asked Lori Gaskill to answer questions and respond to your comments. Lori explained even with approved increases if the monies are not available, pay levels may not increase.  She said to expect minimum to stay at the same level and policy and maximum to move out which would mean the percent of our wage deficiency would increase.

Performance evaluations are due March 31.  A comment was made that all supervisors do not evaluate the same and new-to-the-college supervisors have no idea how to complete the forms.  It was suggested a class on evaluation preparation be given all supervisors.

Laura Moyer, classified staff representative to the Legislature, reported on her trip to Boise.  She explained they have no clue what our job capacity is or what our responsibilities are.  We're strongly encouraged to contact our legislators by letters, emails, or phone calls to inform them of our needs and concerns.  Do not use LCSC resources, letterhead, etc., as that is considered lobbying and against LCSC & State policy.  We must make our contacts through the private sector.

Dawn Byers announced CSO has a web page (www.lcsc.edu/cso).  She suggests we check it often.  If you have comments or information to appear on the page, give Dawn a call.  (Hey, Dawn, great job on the web page!!)

Vana reported for Geri Waters the presidential search committee is on going.

Classified Staff Recognition Committee:

Dawn reported nominations for classified staff of the year would be done via the web. Nominations will be open campus wide starting the middle of March.  All nominated will be placed on the ballot and only classified staff will vote for this year's employee of the year.  You will be able to cast your vote via the web between April 1 & 15.  The award will be presented during the faculty/staff afternoon reception sometime in April.  CSO will share the program with faculty and staff.

Deliveries to the two Christmas families were made December 21.  They each received approximately $320, several gifts, gift certificates, and coupons, Vana reported.

Election of Officers:

Karen Evans, Babette Peterson, Cheryl Grim, and Vikki Swift are on the nomination committee.  They will be taking nominations for next year's officers.  Election will be held and results given during our April meeting.  It was suggested the president serve two years rather than one.  We can discuss this at our next meeting which is scheduled for April, day, time, and location to be announced.
