Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, September 29, 2004

 

Dawn Byers called the meeting to order at 3 p.m.

Remarks from President Thomas

President Thomas welcomed and acknowledged the group for all that they do. She discussed the upcoming accreditation visit that is scheduled for October 25-26, 2004. She encouraged everybody to take time to read the draft report for the accreditation team that is on the intranet. She informed the group that the planning process is beginning and went on to say that the two scenarios for the Unit Action Plans are a flat-line budget and a three percent increase. She also assured the group that the two percent increase this year was just the beginning to fix the salary inequities.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes were approved unanimously by the group.

Chair-Elect Officer Elections

Dawn distributed ballots to vote on the chair elect for this year. Jennifer Weeks and Doris Miles collected and tallied the votes. Julie Crea was voted as the CSO Chair Elect.

Campus Overview Updates

Dawn gave kudos to President Thomas for her making the two percent increase and one percent bonus possible. Dawn announced to the group that the funding did not come entirely from the State and that the President was able to find resources here at LCSC to make these two things possible.

Dawn followed up on what President Thomas said about the accreditation visit. She strongly encouraged everybody to read the report that is located on the intranet. She indicated that anyone of us could randomly be selected to be interviewed by the visiting team and that being familiar with the report would prepare us.

Dawn announced that there will be opportunities to tour the new activity center this fall. If you would like to take part in the following tours, contact Polly Blasko or Jamie White:

Dawn indicated that the State Board of Education will be on campus on Thursday, October 21 at the Williams Conference Center. Feel free to stop by to see what these meetings are all about.

Summer Hours feedback

Dawn announced that President Thomas has requested feedback on summer hours. Dawn will send an e-mail when the web site is available to submit comments.

Holiday Schedule

The PSO chair approached Dawn to get feedback from the CSO members to see if they would be interested in changing the days off that we get over Christmas and New Years. The days that we are scheduled to get off are Friday, December 24; Monday, December 27; Friday, December 31; and Monday, January 3. PSO would like to work Monday, January 3 and have Thursday, December 30 off. Dawn will send an e-mail asking for input.

Holiday Party

Vikki Swift is the co-chair of this committee. She announced that the committee had its first meeting yesterday and that location of the party (on or off campus) is being determined. The date has been set for Friday, December 10th. She encouraged any suggestions be e-mailed to her at vswift@lcsc.edu. She will keep the group informed as news develops.

Dawn shared that the following representatives will be taking part in the Strategic Planning groups as follows:

Presidential Guidances–Salary Compensation & Workload

Dawn explained that a committee was formed last year to give the President suggestions/feedback on salary compensation. Dawn will be reconvening that committee. Anybody that is interested in joining the committee, please e-mail Dawn at dbyers@lcsc.edu.

Credit Load Maximum

The policy on the number of credits that we can take as an employee is currently under review. The current policy allows two courses during work hours with supervisor approval and no limit on the number of credits outside of the work schedule. If you have any objections to the current policy and feel some sort of overall credit limitation should be imposed, e-mail Dawn ASAP.

Hiring Practices

Lori Gaskill, Director of Human Resources, is seeking volunteers to serve on a hiring practices committee to set policies for LCSC. Notify Dawn if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Dawn announced that LCSC is going to take part in the Festival of Trees. The theme is LCSC baseball. Anybody that has items to donate or that would like to help decorate, contact Polly Blasko.

Employee Recognition Committee Updates

Account Balance & donation to Moss Family Fund

Shannon Casteel announced that CSO was able to donate $300 to the Moss Family Fund in May. Currently, the balance of the CSO account in approximately $500.

Book Sale

Shannon promoted the Book and Media Sale that is scheduled for October 14. Please bring any items to donate to the designated offices on campus by October 8. Be sure to stop by the sale–everything is priced at $1. Any items that do not sell will be donated to the troops.

Recipe Book

Stephanie Froehlich, Julie Crea, and Patty Aram are collecting recipes from ALL CSO members for a cookbook that they are putting together before the holidays. Please find your favorite recipes to submit on-line (website link will be sent out soon).

Letters from Santa

Shannon announced that the Letters from Santa fund raiser will be done again this year. Notices will be sent for anybody that would like to submit requests on-line.

Professional Development Day

Patty Leonard asked for volunteers to serve on the planning committee for this day. Please email Patty (pleonard@lcsc.edu) if you would like to join this committee. It has been determined to hold this in conjunction with Administrative Professional Day. It is also being considered to move the event off campus.

By-Laws Committee

Patty indicated that this committee is working on making the by-laws more focused and outlined. Anybody interested in taking part in this committee, notify Patty.

New Classified Staff

A list of new CSO members was distributed to the group.
