You Work Here?Text Box: Name: Tess Hendriks
Department: Lewis-Clark Service Corps
Position: Administrative Assistant I
Text Box: What I do:
I often feel like a tight rope walker as I perform a balancing act throughout the month, keeping our budgets balanced. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy what I do, love it – really! It doesn’t matter how much I’ve had to struggle to reach my goal, or how often I’ve almost lost my balance, the thrill comes when all the pieces come together and the budget reports are ready for the director to sign.
But being surrounded by miles of calculator tape as I work on budgets isn’t all I do. You might want to check out our website someday at www.lcsc.edu/americorps. You’ll see Text Box: the fun I have putting those pages together and at the same time you’ll learn a little bit about our program, which not only places AmeriCorps members at various sites throughout Idaho to tutor and mentor at-risk students and adults, but also oversees a student volunteer center here on campus.
Hobbies/Items of Interest:
This may really freak you, that is if you were paying attention to how much I love working with figures, but most my enjoyment comes from reading and writing, not that I’ve had much time to do either lately. Actually, if I may brag on myself a little, I Text Box: graduated from Lewis-Clark State College in 1998, at the age of 56 (please don’t calculate my age) with a BA in English, Spanish minor. And, get this, I’m also a certified secondary English teacher; so why all this enjoyment from working with figures too? Because I spend hours working crossword and pencil puzzles; working with budgets seems to give me the same thrill.
Do you think I’m nuts? You may be right, but one thing I am for sure and that is grateful to have the opportunity to work for Lewis-Clark State College and the Lewis-Clark Service Corps office in particular.
