Curriculum Approval/ Notification Matrix

Curricular changes require multiple levels of approvals to ensure compliance with LCSC, State Board of Education (SBOE), and Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) policies.

The 3-year Plan has two components: the internal process and the formal SBOE process.

  • Internal: Proposed programs will be listed on the internal 3-year plan documents annually (early fall semester). Proposals will be vetted by the Instructional Deans and the Provost. [Chair submits to Dean; Dean submits to Provost]
  • SBOE: If approved through the internal process, proposed programs will be submitted to the SBOE 3-year plan (March timeframe). The SBOE approves the 3-year plan in mid-August. [Provost]

Once approved on the 3-year Plan by SBOE proceed with the following steps:

  1. No SBOE Proposal Required or when only a Letter to the SBOE is required:
    • Prepare and submit LC Curriculum Approval form.
    • Provost submits required Letters to the SBOE; CTE Dean prepares and submits ICTE materials.
  2.  SBOE Proposal Required:
    • Prepare and submit LC Curriculum Approval form along with the following attachments:
      • SBOE Proposal: Division Chair prepares Program Proposal and Budget and reviews with the Dean.
      • ICTE (Idaho Career & Technical Education: When appropriate, the Division Chair prepares Attachment B and submits to CTE Dean along with the SBOE Proposal and Budget.
      • NWCCU (NW Commission on College & Universities): When appropriate, the Division Chair prepares NWCCU Change and Budget Templates and submits to Dean.
    • Submit all attachments to the Dean through the link in the Curriculum Approval form. Following the Dean’s review/ approval, Dean submits edited attachments to the Provost for review.
    • Simultaneously submit materials to the Professional Standards Commission (PSC; Teacher Education only); Notify the Dean’s and the Provost’s offices when approved by PSC by providing letter of approval.
    • Provost’s Office submits materials to SBOE once approved by Faculty Senate and PSC.
    • Provost’s Office submits materials to NWCCU once approved by SBOE.

Programs may not be advertised or implemented until all levels of approval are complete.

Contact the Financial Aid office for assistance. Note: Additional U.S. Department of Education approval required for Title IV eligible certificates, following SBOE and NWCCU approvals.
