Student suggestions for success:
"My advice. Be organized. Create one
calendar which consolidates all of your class assignments."
Carol C."I am a senior at LCSC. I
have been taking online courses for the last three
years...But some advice I would give to new students is a go-to attitude when it comes to online courses. If you aren't
a self motivated person do not take these courses, because
if you don't stay on top of the courses you can fall behind
very quickly." Paul M.
"My best advice for succeeding with
on-line classes is to be organized from the start. Study the
syllabus carefully and create a timeline/calendar for
assignment due dates, don't be afraid to e-mail the
instructor with questions and check the site daily. Plan
ahead!!" Cindy J.
"I have taken many online classes and my
best advice is to read everything thoroughly, especially the
syllabus. If you have questions or if something isn't clear,
talk to the instructor immediately...don't put it off hoping
you will understand later. Good instructors will address
your concerns or questions in a timely manner, if you get
one who doesn't get back to you within a couple of days,
call him or her personally." Katrina W.
"...you have to check the course apparatus
every day to ensure success in the required time for the
online course." Chelsea M.
"My best advice for anyone taking on-line
courses is to relax and enjoy them. Take the time to get to
know the others in your class by reading and responding to
discussions. If you have questions, just ask. I've been
fortunate in that most teachers have been very clear in
their expectations, but on the rare occasion that I've been
confused I have received the help I need from the professor
or another student. You truly get what you put into it."
Cory M.
"Keep a calendar or student planner
near your computer and transfer all of your due
dates and assignments into it. That way, you can
easily look at your own calendar instead of having
to find the assignments and due dates on
Blackboard/WebCT.
Also, check Blackboard/WebCT often so you know of any changes
in the syllabus or due dates and can easily transfer
them into your own calendar at home." Mary P.
"Set aside a specific spot of time
each week to get everything done. Be consistent."
Joe C.
"Turn on your computer at least once
a week." Jared J.
"Invest in a laptop. I can use
mine all over campus. Also there are some
businesses that offer wireless internet free to
their customers. I can do my homework and have
a bite to eat!" Jenny L.
