Answers to FAQs

What is Distance Learning?

Distance Learning occurs when students take classes that are delivered through web-based, hybrid, or interactive video conferencing methods.

Distance Learning is also an LCSC department on campus that assists students who are taking online courses and interactive video conferencing.

As a distance learning student, the DL Office is your connection to the college.  We are here to answer your questions, assist you with enrollment, and connect you with your instructors.  You may contact us via email at dl@lcsc.edu or call us at (208) 792-2239 or (800) 879-0458.  We are located on the LCSC campus in the Sam Glenn Complex, Room 52.

What are the ways I can learn at a distance?

  • Web-based (WEB) courses are offered entirely online using Blackboard and/or the WWW.  A BbCE class is internet-based and accessed through your WarriorWeb account.  A WWW class is also internet-based and you will directly access it by entering its URL.

  • Hybrid (HYBF) and web-enhanced (LECW) courses provide a combination of traditional and distance learning experiences.  Students meet face-to-face for part of the class and online for the remainder.  Hybrid courses have 30% or more of online delivery of instruction.  The purpose of the hybrid method is to substitute traditional classroom lectures.  Web-enhanced courses have less than 30% of online delivery of instructions.  The purpose of the web-enhanced method is to enhance traditional classroom lectures with an online course management system.
  • Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC) allows the instructor to send traditional classroom lectures to a distant site with technology-equipped classrooms.

How does a Distance Learning course compare with a regular course?

Just like on-campus courses at Lewis-Clark State College, LCSC's Distance Learning courses and programs meet the highest standards of academic excellence.  In a distance learning course you will work toward the same educational objectives and get the same quality instruction that you would in an on-campus course.  Distance Learning courses are offered within the regular semester time schedule; we begin and end at the same time as the on-campus classes.

What is the difference between BbCE and WWW courses?

Blackboard (formerly WebCT), Inc. is the world's leading provider of e-Learning solutions for higher education.  It provides a secure environment for students and a standard means of creating courses for instructors.  A login and password are required before you can access Blackboard courses.  You must be registered for a Blackboard course before you can access the syllabus.  WWW-based courses are not in a secure environment and do not require a login and password.  The syllabus can be obtained before enrolling in the course.
