An introductory guide to Distance Learning at Lewis-Clark State College
Online learning is a non-traditional way to participate in regular academic and technical courses. It offers greater flexibility than traditional methods of learning. You access all or part of your class through a course management system (CMS). At LCSC this system is called Blackboard. There are two main ways to learn online at LCSC.
There are two major differences between online and face-to-face learning.
Online courses, and to a lesser degree hybrid courses, are much more dependent upon written communication. Therefore, having excellent reading and writing skills will assist you while learning online.
Blackboard is the name of LCSC course management system. When registered in an online or technology enhanced section, it's through Blackboard that you'll interact with your instructor, fellow students and course content. Faculty may utilize Blackboard in a variety of ways to enhance your learning experience. You will use Blackboard for a variety of course related activities including:
Currently, the General Education Core can be completed entirely online, as well as many major/minor requirements and electives. With more and more classes being added every semester, you are sure to find a Distance Learning course to fit both your needs and interests.
