On February 21, 2008, ten teams of fifth graders and ten teams of sixth graders met in the gymnasium of Whitman School in Lewiston, Idaho to compete in the 2008 Final Knowledge Bowl.Nine schools in Lewiston, Idaho were represented in this final competition.
Following a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem sung by Debbie Smith, teams were welcomed by Dr. Ellen Perconti, Lewiston's Director of Curriculum. Each Knowledge Bowl participant introduced herself/himself at the podium microphone. Ms. Cynda Hyndman then presented the rules of the competiton before the first round began.
The competition consisted of three rounds:
In the first round, teams answered questions read by Ms. Cynda Hyndman. Questions ranged from Current Events, General Knowledge, and the night's special topic, The Sixties. For some questions, teams identified excerpts from tunes from the decade of the 1960s. For each correct response, teams received five points.
In the second round, teams completed a pair of written tests. On the first test, students demonstrated their math skills by solving story problems. Students then used their geography skills on the second test to identify political and physical features of Europe.
The third and final round was similar in format and content to the first round, except that each correctly-answered question was worth twenty points. Questions in this round were read by Ms. Toni Saleen.
