Optional Assignment #1: The Assassination of Julius Caesar

Write a four page book review/analysis of The Assassination of Julius Caesar.

A book review/analysis is NOT the same thing as a book report. I read the book too, so don't give me a blow by blow account of what the book said. I want you to identify & summarize the author's argument(s), describe the evidence used to support the argument, and tell me if you found the argument convincing. Below is a good set of guidelines for approaching this assignment. This material has been customized some for our use, but is enough of a direct quote from Mary Lynn Rampolla's A Pocket Guide to Writing History to require a citation. (Rampolla, 21-22).

Below is a set of questions to think about as you read each chapter. Some of the questions are repetitive, but that should give you an idea of what to keep in mind. Those interested might consider organizing a book discussion group either outside of class or via email to discuss some of the details of the chapters. If you want help contacting other folks that are interested let me know.
