1.  Call to Order:  Meeting was called to order at 3:20 by Dr. Richard Moore, Chair.

2.  Introduction of Visitors:  The guests introduced themselves at this time.

3.  Approval of Minutes:  Minutes of Jan. 16 were approved as written.

4.  Old Business:

Richard passed out a memorandum from the Provost with proposed changes in policies and practices – a proposal to add a grade of no credit, a proposal for a maximum number of transfer credits for associate degrees and certificates, a proposal for new criteria for Latin honors and Presidential honors, a proposal regarding listing of courses not offered in five years, and a proposal regarding dis-enrolling students who do not meet course pre-requisites.  Some discussion followed.  Senators are to discuss these issues with their divisions.  Faculty Affairs will further discuss these proposals.  Faculty Senate will also discuss these proposals at our next meeting.  Curriculum committee will discuss the proposals that effect curriculum.

5.  New Business:

Richard announced that he received, as faculty Chair, a nice thank you note from Shirley Koenen for her faculty emeritus award.

Richard was in Boise for Higher Education Week, and he talked to the governor about his proposal to raise the sales tax by 11/2%.   The governor’s proposal would balance the budget, but there is not much political agreement for the tax increase at this time.  It is looking likely that only a ˝% tax increase will be voted for by the legislature at this time.  JFAC representatives will visit North Idaho next weekend, and will be on LCSC Feb. 7 at 7 PM in the TCC.  Time may not be exact for the meeting.  Exact time will be announced on Intranet, and Senators are encouraged to come and to support increased funding via taxes so that higher education will not sustain any further cuts.  We should ask to maintain a MCO budget at least.

Richard also discussed the idea of starting a Faculty Welfare Fund.  He passed out a handout with some ideas about how to get started raising money for the fund and asked the senators to discuss the idea with their divisions.  Richard Moore, Chris Riggs, Mike Vernon, and Sheila Watkins agreed to serve on a steering committee to start planning for the Faculty Welfare Fund.

Richard announced that Floyd Cochrane, former white supremacist, will be presenting in the Silverthorne theatre on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 PM.

a.       Faculty Association Treasury Report:  no new report.

b.        Reports:

Good of the Order:  Nothing brought forward at this time.

Adjournment:  Meeting was adjourned at 4:32 by Richard Moore, Chair.

Minutes respectfully submitted by Sheila Watkins, Secretary.
