Faculty Affairs
Minutes, March 7, 2005

Present:
Members:  Diana Ames, Henrik Brosten, Ray P. Esparsen, Michelle Sotka, Leanne Parker, Victor White, Lana Elliott
Guests:  Tony Fernandez, Christine Pharr, Chet Herbst, Mary Ruth Hassett

1.  Minutes of 2/7/05 and 2/28/05 were approved

 2.  Faculty Affairs meetings were scheduled as follows:  March 21, March 28, April 4, April 18, May 2.  All meetings are held in SPH 300 at noon.

3.  SRIs

            a)  We were reminded that the SRIs fall under the auspices of the Faculty Affairs
Committee which will make recommendations to the Faculty Senate for approval. Once
approved, amendments, changes and/or policy are forwarded to the Office of Planning,
            Research, & Assessment for implementation.

b)  We will finalize this year’s recommendations at the next Faculty Affairs meeting.  The dates we recommend to administer the SRIs online are from April 16-April 24.  In addition, we will recommend individual faculty have the option of administering SRIs online or using hard copy.

            c)  We will also recommend that there be a new document for online courses

4.  Honors recognition at graduation

            a)  Tony Fernandez, Christine Pharr, Chet Herbst and Mary Ruth Hassett were present to
clarify issues regarding students on a BSN track who petitioned honors recognition at
graduation based on completion of 20 resident credits rather than the current required 32
            resident credits by the College.

            b)  The Committee did not make a recommendation because it was determined this is an
issue that affects College policy, and other students (e.g. transfer students). Numerous
questions regarding LCSC policy on calculation of honors were also raised.

            c)  Motion passed:  The Committee moved to table the discussion pending further input
            from their respective divisions.

d)  Motion passed:  Faculty Affairs will address larger issues of calculating honors as part of making a recommendation regarding the Nursing Division’s proposal.

Respectfully submitted,

Lana Elliott
Acting Secretary
