General Education Goals

1.         To express ideas in clear, logical and grammatically correct written English.

2.         To express ideas clearly, correctly, logically, and persuasively in spoken English.

3.         To employ mathematics and quantitative methods to solve problems.

4.         To understand mathematics as a logical construct and to manipulate associated abstract symbols.

5.         To understand how the sciences explain the natural world.

6.         To understand the creative processes, aesthetic principles, and the historical traditions of one or more of the fine arts.

7.         To understand how literature explores the human condition and examines human values.

8.         To understand how philosophy influences human thought and behavior.

9.         To understand the role of history and the historical processes in the national and global context.                          

10.       To understand the elements of culture and how they influence our existence.

11.       To develop communication skills in a second language and an understanding of that language's cultural context.

12.       To understand the global sweep of political and economic institutions and their impact on the individual.

13.       To understand how people function in a diverse society.

14.       To understand how to obtain information in order to identify, retrieve, and use resources for study or research.

15.       To understand the factors contributing to wellness and life-long well-being.  

16.       To apply values or ethical principles in evaluating potential solutions to current social or environmental problems.
