Senate Snapshot
11/30/07

  • The Senate Cabinet (standing committee chairs and senate secretary)
met this morning, 11/30. We discussed issues that the Senate is dealing
with overall. The committees do thoughtful and important work for all of
us. Check out their minutes on the Senate webpage or contact your
division representative to any of the eight standing committees for more
information. Also, remember that each committee reports at every senate
meeting. Senate meeting minutes include their reports. The Constitution
“clean-up” and needed revisions will move fast when the spring semester
starts. All the committees know to send proposed changes to Leanne
Parker so the Administrative Procedures Committee can compile the
changes. The revised Constitution will then go to the Provost and
ultimately the State Board of Education for approval.

  • The SCE program guidance task force has faculty representatives but
would welcome and encourage more members! Talk to an SCE committee
member for more information. The task force minutes can be accessed
from the Senate webpage. So far the discussion has included pros/cons
of paper/pencil and online SCE tools, overall concepts for evaluation
questions, summative/formative evaluation and more. The committee is
aware that the SCE issue is a concern of all faculty – your feedback and
    suggestions are essential.

  • I visited with some CdA faculty on Monday, 11/26. There are many issues
in CdA that are, of course, different from the Lewiston campus. They
grapple with complicated orientation needs and advising issues for
non-traditional and transfer students. I learned so much from my brief
meeting. I enjoyed meeting new faculty and seeing old friends. .

  • The topic of Double Majors has been brought up in the Senate during
the last two meetings. Diane Douglas has agreed to do some background
research about double majors at other schools and how we could
establish a policy and guidelines for students, advisors and programs.
We will be talking about this more in the spring.

  • Higher Education week starts on 1/14/08. Brian Christenson and I will be
attending – call me if you would like to go or have questions about
Higher Ed week. On 1/14 Idaho Chairs of Higher Ed Faculty (ICHEF) will
sponsor a legislative reception from 4:30-7pm. We will be inviting all
college administrators too. We will have a poster highlighting LCSC and
    will emphasize our mission.

  • It’s never too early to get the next Faculty Association meeting on
your calendar – 12/13, 3:15, WCC – Refreshments will be served.

Two of our faculty colleagues in Coeur d’Alene –
Peg Wasserman (NHS) and Michelle Sotka (BUS).
