Hello Senators,
I
would like to start a weekly or bi-weekly email
“flyer” that I will send to all senators. I hope
to include highlights from President’s Council and
other informational stuff. It could be a flyer
that you can forward to divisions – just another
(informal) way to get information out besides
(formal) senate minutes. I’d like to make it a
Friday thing (this week I’m early). This week I
have two items – a summary of our retreat and our
identified priorities. Read, delete or forward
on as you choose.

Senate Snapshot
9/7/07
The Faculty Senate held a retreat on 8/30 followed
by a wine and cheese social
at President Thomas’s home.
We started with a lunch sponsored by the Provost’s
office. Provost Fernandez
gave us a general view of governance issues and the
logistics of moving policies
and procedures through the system. The self-study
for our accreditation with
the NW Commission of Colleges and Universities will
begin this fall. Our
accreditation visit is scheduled for Oct 2009.
Lynne Bidwell (webmaster) and Debbie Goodwin
(secretary) clarified their roles
and responsibilities.
We reviewed housekeeping items: our senate meeting
schedule, office hours,
Susan’s meeting obligations (SBOE, Pres Council,
Provost).
The remainder of the afternoon was spent
brainstorming key issues we believe
will be important to all faculty this academic year.
Those issues are summarized
on a separate page “Faculty Senate Priorities,
2007-2008”
The President and Provost were able to join us at
3:30. We briefly reviewed the
key issues emphasized during the retreat.
The Senate Cabinet (the standing committee chairs,
secretary and senate chair)
met on 8/31 and reviewed the priorities identified at the retreat. We
assigned
the issue to the appropriate committee. Of course,
some issues overlap and will
be discussed in several committees.
