Discussion of Possible Items

Wayne Carroll offered several proposed items related to “Learning Activities
and Assessment” category for SCE items.  (See appendix for categories that
the Task Force selected at its Nov 29 meeting and for Carroll’s proposed items.)
He also provided examples of items used by the Education Division to evaluate
lesson plans and student interns.

After some discussion, Task Force members voted in favor of using the
following items:

·         Uncategorized, appearing at the start of the SCE:

o        Provides a course syllabus at the beginning of the
     semester.  Yes/no

·         Under the “Learning Activities and Assessment” Category:

o        Gives tests and/or assignments related to what has
     been taught

special services, etc.)  [see minutes for February 1,

·         Under the “Time Management” Category:

     for 16 weeks of instruction

     etc.)

o        Too specific; doesn’t encompass research
     seminars, etc.

Task Force members discussed (in some cases very briefly) the following
items, but came to no clear agreement as to whether they should be
accepted or rejected or revisited:

·         The instructor provides timely feedback?

·         The instructor returns exams, papers, assignments.
Etc. in a reasonable amount of time.

·         Allows students a reasonable amount of time for tests
     and assignments

·         Allows reasonable time for students to complete
     tests/assignments

·         Provides clear direction for tests and/or assignments

·         Available time for instruction

·         Presents material in a clear and orderly manner

·         Appeared well organized and prepared to teach

·         Assignments returned in a timely fashion

     for assistance

·         Identified and clarified students’ misconceptions

·         Effectively utilized media/technology in support of
     instruction

·         Effectively utilized high quality teaching/learning
     materials in support of instruction

·         Assessment activities correlated with the stated
     course goals and lesson objectives
