Expected Family Contribution
(EFC)
Your EFC is simply a number which indicates how much you and your family
will be expected to contribute toward your education for an academic year. EFC is
determined through a process called Need Analysis and is based
on the information that you provide on the FAFSA. The EFC number will be indicated in the
top right hand corner of the SAR. This number will remain constant, no matter what
institution you choose to attend. It will be used by the Financial Aid Office to determine
your financial aid eligibility for the Federal Student Aid programs (grants, loans and
college work-study).
The cost of education at an institution is a set dollar figure which estimates how much it will cost you to attend college for a specific period of time. The cost of education may be different for individual students, based on such factors as enrollment patterns, state of legal residency and housing status. The cost of education is not constant and will vary at each institution. When determining the cost of education the following elements are taken into consideration: tuition and fees; room and board; books and supplies; transportation; and personal expenses.
