Financial Aid

FAFSA

What is the FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the primary source for determining your eligibility for federal financial aid.  The FAFSA must be completed each academic year you are interested in receiving Federal Student Aid. You should complete the FAFSA as early as possible after January 1 at www.fafsa.gov

LCSC's school code is:  001621

The information you report on your FAFSA is used to calculate an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number according to a formula set by Congress. The EFC is used to determine the amounts and types of aid you are eligible to receive.

How do I Complete the FAFSA?

While the FAFSA is not a difficult application to complete, it does take some time and effort. It will be beneficial for you and your parents to complete your tax returns as early as possible as much of the information on the FAFSA will come from these returns.*

You and/or parents will need these documents to complete the FAFSA:

  • Your Social Security number (it's important that you enter it correctly on the FAFSA!)
  • Your parents’ Social Security numbers if you are a dependent student
  • Your driver’s license number if you have one
  • Your Alien Registration Number if you are not a U.S. citizen
  • Federal tax information or tax returns including IRS W-2 information, for you (and your spouse, if you are married), and for your parents if you are a dependent student:
    • IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ
    • Foreign tax return and/or
    • Tax return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Federal States of Micronesia, or Palau
  • Records of your untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans noneducation benefits, for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student
  • Information on cash; savings and checking account balances; investments, including stocks and bonds and real estate (do not include the home in which you live); and business and farm assets for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student

*If you do not complete your Federal Income Tax Return in time to meet the March 1 Priority Deadline, you should use estimated figures on the FAFSA and update them at a later time.

Along with biological, financial and personal information, you must indicate you want LCSC to receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) in order for the school to receive your results.

If you have specific questions on completing your FAFSA you can contact the LCSC Financial Aid Office or visit the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid website at http://studentaid.ed.gov
