Humanities Scholarships

For scholarships requiring a General Application, first read the submission instructions relating to the version of application you are submitting (paper or electronic). General Applications, paper or electronic, must be submitted by the March 1 deadline. Only one General Application is required per student, be sure to include the checklist indicating the scholarships for which you would like to be considered.

For all other scholarships, instructions for applying will be noted or a separate application will be provided with the scholarship description.

John AK Barker Endowed Scholarship          

The intent of this scholarship is to assist students who have demonstrated performance in all aspects of theatre. To be eligible, students must have a current standing of sophomore or above, be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester and have a cumulative GPA consistent with the minimum required for admission and for progress toward his or her selected major. Preference shall be given to non-traditional students. Minimum award is $250. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1. 

Browning Family Scholarship in Creative Writing          

To be eligible for this award, applicants must be pursuing a degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing , be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. In addition to the application, students will be asked to submit a writing sample of up to 10 pages of poetry or up to 30 pages of prose: fiction or creative nonfiction, along with a letter of recommendation from someone familiar with the applicant's work and a statement of purpose in applying for the award. Recipients of the award, who continue to meet the above criteria, may reapply for the award up to three times. Award amount varies. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

Laura Moore Cunningham Publishing Arts Scholarship          

To be eligible for this award, applicants must be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be an Idaho resident.  Preference will be given to students who demonstrate unusual promise or genuine interest in the Publishing Arts (Book Publishing, Applied Technology, Marketing or Business). Applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Award amount varies. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

Connie McLaughlin Gibbar Music Scholarship          

To be eligible for this award, applicants must be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester, have a cumulative GPA consistent with the minimum required for admission and progress towards his or her selected major, be pursuing a minor in Music and/or be someone who has demonstrated commitment to the study of music as attested and recommended by the music faculty and be enrolled and participate in a LCSC musical performance group. Applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

Norman Maclean Scholarship        

To be eligible for this award, applicants must have a current standing of junior or above, be pursuing a degree in English, be classified as at least half-time, enrolled in six or more credits per semester and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference may be given to full-time students. Award amount varies. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

John L. Nydegger Scholarship          

To be eligible for this award, applicants must have a current standing of sophomore or above, be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and have taken theatre courses, acquiring a GPA of 3.0 in those courses. Preference will be given to students intending to pursue a career in teacher education and to those involved in backstage and performance work. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

Bob Olson Endowed Scholarship in Debate          

To be eligible for this award, applicants must be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, be a current member of the Speech and Debate Team or be intending to join (in the case of a new participant, the recipient must have joined the Speech and Debate Team at the time of registration for the semester) and have a previous high school or college involvement with speech and debate. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Award amount varies. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

Susan P. Schroeder Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Ned R. Schroeder in memory of his wife, Susan, who devoted her time to education at Lewis-Clark State College. To be eligible, students must be pursuing a degree in either Natural Sciences or English, have completed at least four upper division credits in Geology and/or English, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be a graduate of an Idaho high school, with preference given to graduates from Nez Perce County. Whenever possible, the scholarship shall be awarded in alternate award cycles to an English major and a Natural Sciences major. Award amount varies. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

Carolyn Silverthorne Memorial Scholarship          

To be eligible for this award, applicants must have a current standing of junior or above, be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, demonstrate capabilities in all aspects of the theatre and have theatre-oriented career plans. Applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Award amount varies. A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.

The Three Generation Scholarship - The Larry Butts Family          

This scholarship was established in honor of Susan Butts' graduation from Lewis-Clark State College in 2004. Susan was the third generation of her family to graduate from LCSC; her mother, Patricia J. Butts graduated in 1989 and her grandmother, Verna S. Butts, graduated in 1922. To be eligible, students must be classified as full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to Lewiston High School alumni and to students who are enrolled in, or have already taken, Video Productions. The amount of the award is $500.  A General Application is required and must be submitted by March 1.
