Humanities Scholarships

Be sure to first read the submission instructions relating to the version of the General Application you are submitting (paper or online). Only one General Application is required per student. If completing the paper version, be sure to include the checklist indicating the scholarships for which you would like to be considered.

General Applications, paper or online, must be submitted by the March 1 deadline.

All scholarships require a General Application, unless otherwise noted in the scholarship description. For scholarships requiring a separate application, it will be listed below the description.

TO BE ELIGIBLE, STUDENTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING BULLETED SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS.

John AK Barker Endowed Scholarship          

The intent of this scholarship is to assist students who have demonstrated performance in all aspects of theatre.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
  • Have a current standing of sophomore or above
  • Preference:
    • Non-traditional students

Browning Family Scholarship in Creative Writing          

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
  • Pursuing a degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing
  • Must submit a writing sample of up to 10 pages of poetry or up to 30 pages of prose: fiction or creative nonfiction, along with a letter of recommendation from someone familiar with the applicant's work and a statement of purpose in applying for the award

Laura Moore Cunningham Publishing Arts Scholarship          

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
  • Be an Idaho resident
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office
  • Preference:
    • Students who demonstrate unusual promise or genuine interest in the Publishing Arts (Book Publishing, Applied Technology, Marketing or Business)

Connie McLaughlin Gibbar Music Scholarship          

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
  • Pursuing a minor in Music and/or be someone who has demonstrated commitment to the study of music as attested and recommended by the music faculty
  • Participate in a LCSC musical performance group
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office

Norman Maclean Scholarship        

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • At least half-time, enrolled in six or more credits per semester
  • Pursuing a degree in English
  • Have a current standing of junior or above
  • Preference:
    • May be given to full-time students

John L. Nydegger Scholarship          

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
  • Have a current standing of sophomore or above
  • Have taken theatre courses, acquiring a GPA of 3.0 in those courses
  • Preference:
    • Students intending to pursue a career in teacher education and to those involved in backstage and performance work

Bob Olson Endowed Scholarship in Debate          

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
  • Be a current member of the Speech and Debate Team or be intending to join (in the case of a new participant, the recipient must have joined the Speech and Debate Team at the time of registration for the semester)
  • Have a previous high school or college involvement with speech and debate
  • Preference:
    • Students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office

SUSAN P. SCHROEDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Ned R. Schroeder in memory of his wife, Susan, who devoted her time to education at Lewis-Clark State College.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Pursuing a degree in either Natural Sciences or English
  • Be a graduate of an Idaho high school
  • Have completed at least four upper division credits in Geology and/or English
  • Preference:
    • Students who are graduates from Nez Perce County

Carolyn Silverthorne Memorial Scholarship          

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester,
  • Have a current standing of junior or above
  • Demonstrate capabilities in all aspects of the theatre and have theatre-oriented career plans
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office

The Three Generation Scholarship - The Larry Butts Family          

This scholarship was established in honor of Susan Butts' graduation from Lewis-Clark State College in 2004. Susan was the third generation of her family to graduate from LCSC; her mother, Patricia J. Butts graduated in 1989 and her grandmother, Verna S. Butts, graduated in 1922.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Full-time, enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester
  • Preference:
    • Students who are Lewiston High School alumni
    • Students who are enrolled in, or have already taken, Video Productions
