Butts Family Scholarship
The Butts Family Scholarship was established
in honor of Susan Butts’ Lewis-Clark State College graduation in
May, 2004. Susan is a third generation of her family to graduate
from Lewis-Clark State College. Susan received her degree in
Communication Arts and attended graduate school seeking her Master’s
in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. She works full
time at Washington State University for Student Involvement in the
division of Student Affairs.
Susan’s mother, Patricia
Johnson Butts, graduated in 1989 with a degree in English
Literature. While attending she was a member of the Ambassador’s,
sang in the LC Choir and performed in the drama Stop the World, I
Want to Get Off.
Susan’s grandmother, Verna Sampson Butts,
graduated in 1922 from what was then the Lewiston State Normal
School, with a Teaching Degree and taught for ten years in the
surrounding area. An interesting note is that Verna’s sister, Edythe
Sampson, organized the Nez Perce County Library and was an Assistant
Librarian at LCSC. Susan’s ancestral family has been in this area
since 1865.
Not only have Larry and Patricia been long time
supporters of their scholarship, but they also have been long time
supporters of the Women’s Basketball Club.
The scholarship is
awarded to a student who must have at least a 3.0 gpa and enrolled
in at least 12 credits per semester with preference given to a
Lewiston High School alumni or to a student who enrolled in or has
already taken Video Production.
