Study Questions for March 13 Exam Two

 

Note: You will not know in advance which questions will be selected for the exam so it is advisable to prepare for each question.  Remember the exam will be closed-notes and closed-book. Your answers should reflect the breadth of information presented in the class and must incorporate specific material from the course readings whenever appropriate.  Please bring a blank blue book to the exam.

 

One of the essay questions below will appear on your exam, plus there will be a short answer, fill-in-the-blank, multiple-choice, true/false section based primarily on key terms from the text and your notes.

 

 

1. Use the documentary Trade Secrets to illustrate key issues concerning threats to the environment.  Be sure to:

a) Explain the cultural sources of threats to the environment, and show which ones you think are relevant for Libby.

 b) Explain the structural sources of threats to the environment, and show which ones you think are relevant for Libby.

c) Discuss the concept of environmental justice.  Is it relevant for Libby?

 

 

3. Discuss the social problem of poverty.  Be sure to at least discuss:

a) The myths surrounding poverty

b) The explanations for the causes of poverty

c) How do the explanations compare to explanations for different levels of success between racial groups?

d) Solutions for eliminating poverty
