GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Applying for Graduation
Graduation is not automatic. Students must
apply for graduation, pay the graduation application fee and
submit the application form and a printed program evaluation
to the Office of Admission/Registrar. Your advisor must sign
off on both the application and the program evaluation. So
be sure to set up an appointment well in advance of the
application deadline.
The application deadline for spring graduation is October 1
(approx) of the prior semester. The application deadline for fall
graduation is March 1 (approx) of the prior semester.
Students are allowed to change their graduation term only
once. After that, a new application must be turned in
and fee paid.
Core and Credit Requirements:
To earn a
certificate or a degree the student must complete:
- A minimum of 27 semester credits for a certificate;
- A minimum of 60 semester credits for an associate
degree;
- A minimum of 128 semester credits for a bachelor
degree.
Remedial and developmental coursework, even if numbered 100
or above, does not count toward graduation requirements. All
coursework numbered below 100 is considered developmental.
Students must complete a minimum of 36 credits in courses
numbered 300 and above to earn any academic bachelor’s
degree. Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree must
complete a minimum of two years (16 credits) of the same
foreign/heritage language.
Students must complete all general education core, minor (if
applicable), major, and graduation requirements to graduate.
Please note: unless completed through competency credit or
challenge exam, all general education core courses must be
graded with a letter grade, A-F. The pass/fail and audit
options are not permitted for general education core
courses.
GPA Requirement
Students must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average
of 2.00 at LCSC to graduate. Some majors require a higher
cumulative grade point average. If you have questions, check
with your advisor.
Catalog Requirements
Students may elect to satisfy the requirements outlined in a
specific catalog as long as the catalog is no more than
seven years old at the time of graduation, or may also
choose to satisfy the requirements listed in a more recent
catalog as long as the student attended LCSC during the
effective period of the catalog. Students may not use more
than one catalog; students may not satisfy the general
education core requirements from one catalog while
satisfying the major requirements of another catalog.
Exit Exams / Assessment
Students may be required to complete a division exit
examination and/or other institutionally required
assessments. Contact your advisor to determine what exit
exams or assessments are required of your program.
Incomplete Grades
Degrees will not be awarded to students who have Incomplete
(I) or In Progress (IP) grades on their transcript after the
Fall 1994 term.
