Budget Information
Budget
Narration/Justification
Some grants require a budget narrative (or
justification) along with a line-item budget. The
budget narrative provides a clear and concise
explanation of the expenses (and in some cases revenues)
listed on the line-item budget, and serves to provide in
depth information that cannot be conveyed in either the
budget or the proposal narrative.
Indirect Costs
Indirect (F&A) cost recovery rate was
negotiated with Department of Health and Human Services
for 34% of direct costs effective
7/1/2012 thru 6/30/2018. When calculating indirect costs
EXCLUDE:
Capital outlay/equipment (over $5K)
Tuition
Stipends
Scholarships
Rental cost of off-site facilities
Any amount over $25,000 on subcontracts
If you have any questions
about what qualifies for indirect cost please contact
us.
LCSC Federal Indirect Rate
Fringe Rates
Please refer to the
FY13 Fringe Rate Summary when determining salary and
fringe on your budget. For more information, please
contact
Trudy Alva, Budget Office Director.
Other Budget Information
Summer salary: Summer salary can only be claimed during
the period when an investigator is not on regular
appointment with the college (usually mid-May to
mid-August).
Compensation in excess: Any claim for extra compensation
by LCSC regular salaried personnel must be justified in
a memo and approved by the Provost. Faculty
extra-compensation paid as overtime pay or a temporary
salary increase is an unallowable expense on sponsored
projects. The rate of pay must be consistent with the
base salary.
Tip:
Increase all direct costs by 4%; increase fringe by 1%;
for each consecutive year of proposed project. Do not
increase indirect cost rates.
