Session Descriptions

Advanced Practice Nursing: This session will introduce you to the educational and professional opportunities that are available to students that have already earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing.  You will discuss professions such as Nurse Practitioner as well as graduate nursing specialties that are available.  Speaker: Andena Hibbard, MSN, RN, ARNP, Associate Professor of Nursing, Lewis-Clark State College

Dental hygiene: This session will introduce you to the training and role of a dental hygienist and provide a look at one of the fastest growing professions in the US.  Speakers: Vonni Mulrony, RDH, Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene, Lewis-Clark State College/Lane Community College and Current students of the Lane CC Dental Hygiene program

Dentistry: This session will introduce you to the education and various opportunities in Dentistry and will include discussion of the Idaho Dental Education Program, a cooperative agreement between Idaho and Creighton University Dental School.  Speaker: Travis Bartschi, DDS

Nursing: This session will introduce you to the various roles of the nurse in the health care setting. You’ll have an opportunity to visit our Clinical Resource Center to see our practice manikins and learn a bit about the hands on care a nurse provides.  Speaker: Ella-Mae Keatts, MSN, RN, FNP, CCRN, Associate Professor of Nursing, Lewis-Clark State College.

Physical Therapy: This session will introduce you to the field of physical therapy, the academic preparation to become a physical therapist, and provide insight into the profession from a highly experienced professional. Speaker: Johanna Strehle, DPT, Institute of Physical Therapy

Physician: This session will introduce you to the education required to pursue an occupation in medicine.  You will learn general information you should know about becoming a physician as well as information regarding specialty fields in medicine.  Speakers: Tim Dykstra, DO, Internal Medicine; Kristin Edgehouse, DO, Pediatrics and Pediatric Oncology

Radiographic Science: This session will introduce you to the role of the registered radiography technologist (professional who takes x-rays) including a chance to see and manipulate x-ray machines and manikins and view x-rays.  Speakers: Nan Miguel, BS, RT(R), Assistant Professor of Radiography and Radiography program director and Scott Wimer, BS, RT, Assistant Professor of Radiography, Lewis-Clark State College.

Sports Medicine/Exercise Science/Strength and Conditioning: This session will introduce you to careers obtainable with a BS degree in Kinesiology and those needing further study in graduate school.  You will also tour the Exercise Physiology Lab and see how Metabolic Cart and BAPS Boards are used by our students in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine.  Speakers: Clay Robinson, PhD, Professor of Education and Kinesiology/Health

Cardiac Rehab/Aging & Physical Activity/Occupational Therapy: During this session you will visit the Exercise Physiology Lab for a hands-on session with equipment used by Cardio-Rehab Specialists, Dietitians, and Gerokinesiologists.  You’ll conduct a mini-diet analysis and use hydrostatic weighing to analyze body composition.  You will also focus on the various roles of an occupational therapist.  Speakers: Clay Robinson, PhD, Professor of Education and Kinesiology/Health, Lewis-Clark State College; Marika Botha, PhD, Professor of Education and Kinesiology/Health, Lewis-Clark State College

Veterinary Medicine: This session will introduce you to the field of Veterinary Medicine and discussion on academic preparation and opportunities.  Included in this session will be a look at the background of a practicing Veterinarian and college Professor discussing the various avenues one can explore with such credentials.  Speaker: Heather Henson-Ramsey, PhD, DVM, Associate Professor of Biology, Lewis-Clark State College.

Wellness Coach/Personal Trainer/Corporate Fitness: In this session you will use the equipment personal trainers and wellness coaches use on-the-job.  In our Exercise Physiology Lab you will estimate your body composition with electronic skin fold calipers and our Bioempedence Monitors.  Speaker: Lee Ann Wiggin, MS, Well Coach, Personal Trainer, Health and Kinesiology Instructor, Lewis-Clark State College.
