JOB Work-Study Program

J.O.B. Work-Study Program

LCSC offers JOB Work-Study for international students to work on campus.

JOB Work-Study is a program that helps provide funding for international students to work on campus. Funding for this program is extremely limited.

International students on an F-1/J-1 visa may apply for JOB work-study. This allows them to work on campus. (Please note that this is NOT the same as the federal work-study that many domestic students have and for which international students are not eligible.) You may apply for JOB in the fall or spring semesters only.

To apply for JOB, please follow these steps below:

Make sure you are eligible for JOB funds:
  • Your GPA must be 2.0 or higher.
  • You must be on an F-1 or J-1 visa and in status. (Students on a J-1 visa must also have permission from their sponsor before they can accept a job offer.)
Find an on-campus job.
  • Financial Aid has a list of available jobs here: http://www.lcsc.edu/financialaid/work-study/
  • Some students also find jobs by going to different departments at LCSC and asking if they have any jobs available. Check places like the Fitness Center, the SUB or any of the tutoring centers on campus – these are places that often hire international students.
  • Jobs at the LCSC Bookstore or Sodexo are not eligible for JOB funds – you can still apply for them, but you don’t need JOB funds.
  • You do not need to have a job offer at the time of application, but if you are selected for a JOB award, you will have two weeks from the date of the award to find a job. If you are unable to find a job, the award will be given to another student.

If you don’t yet have one, apply for a Social Security Number (SSN). You cannot begin working until you have applied for it. You will need a job offer letter and an enrollment verification letter from the International Programs Office in order to apply. For more detailed instructions, ask the International Student Advisor or pick up the “How to Apply for a Social Security Number” flier in RCH 23.

Notify the International Programs Office that you have a job offer by submitting the completed JOB Application form on the Forms page. You will receive a response (either a rejection or an approval) by email.

JOB funds are limited, so apply early!

Applications are accepted during these windows ONLY:

Two weeks before the first day of the fall or spring semester, until 5pm on the Thursday before the start of classes.

Once the semester has started, JOB applications will be accepted on a weekly basis until 5pm each Thursday, until there is no more funding left.

Degree-seeking students are given first priority for JOB funds. Non-degree seeking students (ex: exchange students, study abroad students, J-1s . . .) are welcome to apply, but won’t be considered until all degree-seeking applicants have been considered first.

Once you have been approved, you will receive an email from the Financial Aid Office telling you to print and sign your award letter. You can find this letter on Warrior Web.

Return the signed award letter to Financial Aid. They will give you another form to fill out to get signatures from your supervisor.

You will also need to go to Human Resources (Administration Building, room 102) to fill out some additional paperwork.
