What is Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC)?
Answer:
IVC is technology which allows for full visual and verbal two-way interaction between multiple sites at a distance, using a combination of phone lines and the internet.

Who can us IVC?
IVC is available to anyone in the public. As an Educational Institute, LCSC gives priority to Higher Educational classes but with available rooms, State agencies, non-profit organizations, and businesses can schedule through the IVC Operations Specialist.

What does it cost?
Cost varies on several factors such as, length of conference, businesses or organization, and room availability. For a list of prices please refer to the “Cost” page of the IVC web site (
http://www.lcsc.edu/ivc).

Can I do IVC over my PC?
There are some systems that you can do IVC right over your personal computer using your IP address. There is a warning though. Remember, the internet is the “Information Highway” with lots of traffic. It is great to use for individual meetings or chats but packets of information do get lost in the shuffle or traffic and is isolated on your PC and not very convenient for larger meetings.

IVC over ISDN lines (phone lines) is “Dedicated” specifically for IVC so there is no loss of sound or picture. With our standard rate there is a slight jarring of motion but clear pictures, which is ideal for classes and meetings of 3 or more. Attendance can be as many as the room can hold. It is also secure with no outside lines connecting unless you want them to.

What is meant by “Teleconference”?
Answer:
It sometimes becomes confusing when an event is advertised as a “Teleconference”. Most “Teleconference Events” refer to Satellite downlinks, which is only a one-way media system. The participants just watch the TV screen and have no interaction with the presenter.

IVC is complete interaction. Questions and comments are exchanged live and displays can be shown and shared by all sites simultaneously. The word “Teleconference” can be used in both scenarios but is generally referred to for Satellite events.

Teleconference also refers to the use of conference phones between distant sites.
