Laptop Checkout
Policy
Overview: Lewis-Clark State
Colleges (LCSC) Student Technology Fees have purchased laptop computers for current
LCSC student use. Laptops will be made available for checkout at the SUB Information
Desk and the Library Circulation desk.
Checkout policies:
1. Registration
contract forms must be filled out and signed, including an agreement to liability for
damages and an understanding of late fees.
2. LCSC Student
Identification cards must be shown to checkout a laptop.
3. Laptops can be
checked out by current LCSC students for a period of (1) day. Laptops cannot be
reserved in advance. Laptops can be checked out daily after 1:00 p.m. and must be
returned the following day no later than 12:00 p.m.
4. Checkout desk
personnel will briefly explain operation of laptop to student before allowing checkout if
requested.
5. Upon return,
checkout desk personnel will examine the laptop and test for functionality.
6. Students
account will be charged for any late fees; if laptop is returned late a $5.00 minimum fee
will be charged to the student account. Ongoing late fees are $5.00 per half-hour,
or $10 per hour; after 24 hours the laptop will be considered stolen and a police
investigation will begin. All late fees will be deposited in the Student Technology
Fee account.

Configuration
of Laptop software / hardware:
Laptops will
facilitate stand-a-lone use and Internet access only.
1. Laptops will be
configured in such a way as to prevent ALL saving to the local hard drive. Users will be
directed by dialogues to save all work to the floppy drive or zip disk.
2. Laptops will be
configured in a secure manner. No personal modifications will be allowed or saved;
all menus, options, cache, bookmarks, and history files will be either prevented or
removed automatically.
3. Laptops will be
configured to automatically be rebuilt upon reboot using Deepfreeze.
4. Laptops will be
connected to the campus network via a wireless card. A hard wired connection will
also be available on the bottom floor of the SUB. The jacks will be marked to
indicate Internet access only.
5. Microsoft
Office XP will be available on all laptops.
6. Basic Internet
access tools will be available, including basic browser plug-in.
7. Printing will
not be available from the laptops. Users should save work to a floppy disk or zip
disk and print in a student computer lab or from a personal system.
Security Issues:
1. Checkout desk
personnel will stress thorough pre-checkout documentation. LCSC Student ID card must
be shown to checkout a laptop.
2. Visible
deterrents will include large anti-theft warning stickers / ID tags permanently etched
into these laptops.
