This course is a comprehensive introduction to the fields of web design and development. Students are given a contemporary knowledge base of the most critical topics and technologies in the web design and development industry. Professional standards are emphasized.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to build upon this courses foundation
of knowledge and apply their learning in courses with specific technology application objectives.
Specific learning objectives include:
• Distinguish between the fields of Web Design versus Web Development
• Describe the Internet's framework and history
• Provide informed opinions about the future of the Internet and World Wide Web
• Become versed in popular web browser program capabilities
• Understand where to apply web standards using W3.org references
• Describe the major talking points in the field of ecommerce
• Understand the role of HTML and basic markup for web pages
• Understand the role of CSS and basic styling definitions
• Understand the role of JavaScript and basic client-side coding
• Understand the role of server-side languages and web programming
• Be familiar with authoring tools and Content Management Systems (CMS)
• Be familiar with popular photo editing and digital design tools
• Understand multimedia development platform capabilities
• Describe web database technologies and data-driven content systems
• Describe the role of web server administration
• Build a simple web site utilizing appropriate technologies and standards
