What we loan |
Can I check out Government
Documents?
No.
Government documents must be used in the library.
However, many government documents are available online and can
be accessed via the Library Home Page.
For further information, please call the reference librarians
at 208-792-2236.
|
Can I check out journals or
magazines?
We don’t loan out entire issues of a journal or magazine.
You can get some articles full-text online from our Web page
"Journals, Newspapers, & Indexes."
For articles that are not available online, we will make copies
of articles for students registered in our Outreach classes.
You may request the article using the form "Interlibrary
Loan Requests." Be sure to identify your Outreach student status.
|
Can I check out CDs?
Yes. Up to five CDs may be checked out for 14 days at a time. CD
players are available for use in the library.
|
Can I check out videos and DVDs?
Yes.
Up to five videos or DVDs may be checked out for 14 days at a time.
|
How many books can I check out at a time?
There
is a limit of twenty for books in the general collection, and a limit of
three for Pacific Northwest books.
If you need more than twenty books from the general collection
for a research project, this limit can be extended in many cases,
provided you have no overdues or fines on your record.
|
How to Borrow Material |
How do I get a library card?
Your LCSC Student ID card functions as your Library card. The
Outreach Center in Coeur d'Alene provides Student IDs for students in
their programs. If you do not have a Student ID, please enter your Student ID number
when filling out the "Interlibrary
Loan Requests" form.
|
Where do I go to check out materials?
Go to the "Interlibrary
Loan Requests" web page. You
will need to identify yourself and to identify the materials you would
like to borrow. We will mail the materials directly to you.
|
How long may I have an item?
Most books in our collection can be checked out for 28 days. CDs, videos, and DVDs can be checked out for 14 days.
Some
items may be renewed by contacting the Circulation Supervisor
208-792-2830.
|
Someone else has borrowed the book I need to use. How can I get
it?
Go to the "Interlibrary
Loan Requests" web page
to request the item.
When the item is available, it will be mailed to you.
|
Why did the library worker say he would "charge" a book to me?
Will it cost money?
“Charging” is library jargon meaning a book is
being checked
out to you. It does not cost you anything to check out an item, unless of
course you do not return it on time!

Items You Already Borrowed |
How can I renew material?
Make sure that you renew your books before
or on the due date. Call
the Circulation Supervisor 208-792-2830 and renew over the phone.
If you have a Student ID or library card, please have it handy, it will
make the process go faster. If
your books are overdue, they may not be renewed.
There is a limit of two renewals per item, and some items
(videos, for example) may not be renewed at all.
|
|
I got a notice that an item I've borrowed has been recalled. What
does that mean?
Another patron has identified the item in the catalog
and would like to borrow it. The recall notice establishes a
new due date, usually a week from the date of the recall notice.
The item will be overdue eight days after the recall notice. Items
that have been recalled may not be renewed. Fines on
recalled items are $2 a day, with a maximum of $20. ALL PATRONS
(students, faculty, staff, and community members) are subject to recall
fines!
|
Where do I return items?
You may return your library materials to
the Outreach Center, to the NIC Library, or directly to the Library by mailing
them to the LCSC Library, 500 8th Avenue, Lewiston, ID 83501. Be
sure to renew the items first if they are likely to be overdue before
they get back to campus.
|
How can I find out what library materials I have borrowed?
Call the Circulation Desk 208-792-2396, and
they can look it up for you.
If you have
a Student ID or library card, please have it handy. It will make the
process go faster.
|
I just received an overdue notice for a book I know I returned.
Who should I talk to?
Call the Circulation Desk 208-792-2396, and
ask to have the shelves checked. If
the book is on the shelf, we will check it in and waive any fine. |
Lost/Overdue Items |
Oops, I lost a book. What should I do, and how much will it
cost?
Report any lost books to the Circulation
Supervisor 208-792-2830. The
replacement cost of each item is $80 to cover the costs for replacing
the item, including staff costs.
If necessary, a payment plan can be developed.
|
Oops, my book is overdue. What should I do and how much will it
cost?
When
you check out a book from LCSC, the due date is marked in the back
cover. If you discover that
an item is overdue, return it immediately. The
longer you keep an overdue item, the more it will cost you. Our fines on videos and games are $1.00 per day with a
maximum fine of $25.00 per item. On-campus
reserve items
have a fine of 25 cents per hour.
On all other items, fines are 25 cents per day with a maximum
fine of $10.00 per item.
|
What do I do if I know I cannot return my materials on time?
Call
the Circulation Supervisor 208-792-2830 before or on the due date and
renew them.
|
How will the Library get in touch with me if I have overdue
materials?
You will be mailed an overdue notice
telling you if items are overdue.
Overdue notices are a service we provide, but not receiving an
overdue notice does not excuse a fine.
You are responsible for knowing when your items are due and for
returning them on time.
|
Is there a foolproof way to keep out of trouble with fines?
Sure!
Return your items on time, every time.
Works like a charm.
|
I just received an overdue notice for a book I know I returned.
Who should I talk to?
Call the Circulation Desk 208-792-2396, and
ask to have the shelves checked. If
the book is on the shelf, we will check it in and waive any fine. |
