You must consult an
index to find out what articles, if any, have been published on your
subject.
We have 2 kinds of
indexes to search:
1.
Paper
indexes, such as
Social
Sciences Index.
-
Located
between the Library computers and the Current Periodicals
-
In-depth
coverage in certain subject areas
-
Cover
years prior to 1990, as well as current years
-
Contents
arranged alphabetically by subject and author
-
One
volume for each year of coverage
-
Give
citation information to articles, not the full articles
-
Still
have to find the articles either online or in paper
2. Online
indexes, such as Academic
Search Premier.
-
From
gray bar on left of Library Web page, select
Journals,
Newspapers, Indexes
-
Select
an index (database) to search, based on your research interest
-
Most
coverage begins around 1990
-
Some
online indexes provide full-text (all the words) of the articles
-
Some
only provide citation to articles, not the full articles
