Electronic Lexicons for Libraries
By:  Timothy S. Hillebrand, Ph.D.

Words are power. With the power of computers, information is more readily available than ever before. But, to be useful, information must be accessible. Regrettably, a survey of both public and academic library sites reveals that lexicons are often buried so deeply that you need to be an archaeologist to excavate them. This presentation will explore developments in electronic lexicons and some logical and practical choices for libraries with a treat for everyone at the end. And in the end, the one with the most words wins.

This program is made possible by support from Boise Cascade Corp. and the Idaho Governor's Lewis and Clark Trail Committee, and by funding from the Idaho Humanities Council, a state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Early Idaho History:  Libraries as Research Centers and Publishers
By:  Dennis and Lynn Baird

Many of the key written sources of early Idaho history remain little known and unpublished. There appears to be no major commercial outlet for this important information, and so publishing the primary sources of our state's history is chiefly a non-profit venture and a labor of love. This program will use the publishing efforts of the University of Idaho Library as a teaching tool and example.
