A 5-volume set. It brings together reference material on American Indian and non-Indian relationships in short paragraph form.

Handbook of North American Indians [Ref E77 .H25]
A multi-volume set published by the Smithsonian Institution. The chapters on this part of the United States can be found in Volume 12 (Plateau).
Each volume contains long chapters per tribe. For example, the chapter on the Kalispel tribe is 14 pages long and covers:

Environment
External Relations
Culture
History
Synonymy
Sources
The longest section is "Culture," and there is a long bibliography at the end of each volume to direct you to further research.

Encyclopedia of Idaho Indians [Ref E78 .I18 E53 2000]
A 1-volume work. As an example, the Kalispel do not have a separate chapter. They are included in the Coeur d'Alene entry, which is 5 pages long.

Encyclopedia of Native American Healing [Ref E98 .M4 L96 1996]
A 1-volume work. Short entries (1 paragraph) on substances used by North American Indian healers and shamans. Provides an index and a 17-page bibliography in the back of the book.

Ethnographic Bibliography of North America [Ref E77 .M9 1975]
A 5-volume set. Pretty old. The tribes in this part of the United States are included in Volume 1, Chapter 8 (Plateau), which has a 10-page bibliography.

The American Indian and the United States [Ref E93 .W27]
A 4-volume work published by the Smithsonian Institution. Focuses on historical documents, rather than descriptions of individual tribes.

A 1-volume work. A bibliography and guide to resources regarding the health of Native Americans.

LCSC Library Catalog - provides information about the materials owned by the LCSC Library and other North Idaho Academic Libraries, including North Idaho College and the University of Idaho. Also has a link to WIN Libraries, so you can search Gonzaga, Whitworth, and VALNet Libraries.
Keep in mind that the Library of Congress Subject Heading is Indians, rather than Native Americans.
And remember that you can search for the "Allan H. Smith Collection."
Research Center at Nez Perce National Historic Park
You can search the catalog (limit location to Idaho) before visiting the Research Center.
Materials must be used on-site. They don't check anything out. Find more details, including a link to their policies, by clicking on the link for the Research Center above.
WorldCat - A catalog of items held at libraries throughout the world. Many of these materials can be borrowed through inter-library loan.
Use the "Advanced Search" to limit your search to LCSC or another library.

SocINDEX with Full Text - contains full text for 253 "core" coverage sociology journals dating back to 1895, and 72 "priority" coverage journals. This database also includes full text for 547 books and monographs, and full text for 6,711 conference papers.
InfoTrac Diversity Studies - A subset of Academic OneFile, this database provides full-text articles related to ethnic minorities, women, and homosexuals.

InfoTrac Religion & Philosophy - a subset of Academic OneFile that focuses on journals covering religion and philosophy. Many articles are provided full-text.
Social Sciences Index - a Paper Index in the LCSC Library, 1974-present. Covers anthropology, among other social sciences. Provides citations only. For articles prior to 1974, refer to International Index to Periodicals, a Paper Index, 1907-1965, or to Social Sciences & Humanities Index, a Paper Index, 1965-1974.
Anthropological Index Online - a journal search engine from the British Museum. The LCSC Library doesn't have all the periodicals that they index. Once you have identified articles on your subject, ask the Reference Librarian to help you find the articles.

Alaskool Central - Provided by the Institute of Social and Economic Research, University of Alaska Anchorage. The page provides online materials about Alaska Native history, education, languages, and cultures.
American Indians of the Pacific Northwest (American Memory, Library of Congress) This digital collection integrates over 2,300 photographs and 7,700 pages of text relating to the American Indians in two cultural areas of the Pacific Northwest, the Northwest Coast and Plateau.
USA.gov - A search engine for government Web pages, with an emphasis on the Executive Branch of the Federal Government.
Thomas - An easy-to-search source for legislative information, provided by the Library of Congress.
GPO Access - Searchable database of Web pages, with an emphasis on the Legislative Branch of the Federal Government. Provided by the Government Printing Office.
I-Docs - An online collection of paper and digital resources selectively chosen from published Idaho Government Documents.
