What is Paraphrasing?

Paraphrasing is restating an author's ideas in your own words.

*

Let's say that you have done lots of research, read lots of articles and books, took notes, etc.  Now you are ready to write your paper.

Besides your own ideas on the subject, you will be presenting the ideas that you read in your research.  You will want to give credit to the people who helped you along the way with their ideas.  Besides citing the sources, you will need to present their words in a way that makes it clear which ideas are yours and which are someone else's.

Remember:  If you present someone else's ideas as your own, you are guilty of plagiarism!
