Book Chapters

Recall that if you are looking for a book on your topic, you will want to search the Library Catalog.

But sometimes when you are searching an index, you will find a citation for a book chapter.  This can be extremely helpful, because some books include chapters by different authors around a central theme.  Not all the chapters may apply to your research topic, but one individual chapter will be just perfect.

You won't be able to find information on individual chapters in the Library Catalog.  You will need an index to do that for you.

Here is a citation for a book chapter from the PsycINFO database, which is a kind of index:

You can tell that a citation is for a book chapter because:

  • It contains the word In.  Then it follows with information that looks like a book citation (title, author, place and date of publication).
