Welcome to

Information Literacy Module 2D:

MLA Citation Style

When you write papers, you will need to cite your sources, that is, you will need to explain where you got your information.  The two citation styles used most often at LCSC are MLA and APA.  This module covers the details of citing sources with MLA style.  Module 2C covers APA style.

If you need help in understanding any of the information in this module, the Reference Librarians would be glad to give you some individual instruction!

ACTIVITIES:

  1. Here's a Tutorial to teach you the basics of creating citations in MLA Style. {Thanks to Jonathan Grubb and Ielleen Miller of Eastern Washington University for developing it and making it available to us!}

  • Once you enter the Tutorial, click on "Main Menu," and then "MLA Style."

  1. MLA Style was updated in April 2009 with the Seventh Edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.  Read a quick summary of the changes.  These changes will be reflected in the tutorial soon.  In the meantime, the Reference Librarians can help you cite your sources using the new Handbook.

  2. Here is a tutorial from Three Rivers Community College Writing Center on how to format your paper in MLA Style, using Microsoft Word 2007.

  • This information is provided to help you.  The Module quiz does not cover this information on formatting.
