Goals & Objectives

 

TOPIC - Finding and using resources in the discipline of Psychology
 

GOALS -

 

Introduce students to the resources available for finding information about Psychology in the LCSC Library and teach them how to cite these resources in their papers

 

OBJECTIVES -

 

After performing the module's activity, students will be able to:

  • Identify some reference books and their uses
  • Know the advantages and disadvantages of using books, journal articles, and Web sites in their research
  • Identify the major journal article databases in the area of Psychology that are available to them at LCSC
  • Understand the importance of using subject headings in a database search
  • Find books at LCSC using the catalog
  • Recognize the call numbers (i.e., shelf locations) for most Psychology materials at the LCSC Library
  • Find books outside LCSC using catalogs and other online tools
  • Understand the criteria to use in evaluating Web sites
  • Use the APA format to cite materials they have used in writing their papers
