LEWISTON, Idaho – Right-fielder Cody Sadler continued his hot hitting going four-for-four and driving in four runs to lead Dallas Baptist (Tex.), to a 14-0 win over Biola (Calif.), in a loser-out game of the 45th annual NAIA Avista Baseball World Series Monday at Harris Field.The Patriots, now 40-17, advance to another loser’s out game Tuesday. Biola completed its season with a record of 46-14.
Sadler, who is now eight-for-eight in the World Series, doubled twice. He capped off his perfect day with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
Earlier he singled in the first and third innings, had RBI doubles in the fifth and seventh and was hit by a pitch in the eighth. His seventh-inning double drove in two of the Patriots’ three runs in the inning. Dallas Baptist then broke the game wide open scoring three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth.
Steven Berry, Josh Causey and Troy Silcox each hit home runs as Dallas Baptist exploded for 17 hits in the contest. Berry, who also had a single and double, clubbed a two-run shot in the eighth inning. Causey and Silcox hit solo blasts in the fourth and ninth, respectively.
Designated hitter Eric Darjean drove in three runs with a trio of singles.
Meanwhile, Dallas Baptist starter Cory Morris fanned 13 batters and allowed just two hits in 7 2/3 innings. Morris, who walked five in improving his season record to 8-5, threw 142 pitches, 82 of them strikes, before giving way to reliever Ben Johnson in the eighth. In 1 1/3 innings, Johnson allowed one hit. He also walked one and struck out one.
Ryan Beaver, Ben Orr and Mark Wade had the only hits, all singles, for the Eagles. Biola starter Jonathan Rouwenhorst surrendered 10 hits and six runs in six plus innings to suffer his second loss on the season against five wins.
