NAIA World Series Reading Program

Players from all 10 teams participating in the Avista NAIA World Series take part in the "Score a Hit with Reading" program for sixth graders in Lewiston, Clarkston, Asotin and Lapwai.

On Thursday, May 24, the players will visit area sixth grade classrooms and read "The Boy Who Saved Baseball" by John Ritter to encourage reading among the students. More than 750 copies of the book were distributed to area sixth graders and their school libraries. The players will spend approximately an hour in the classrooms, reading and interacting with the students.

For the third consecutive year, in addition to the teams reading with the students, area sixth graders will be asked to write a short essay on what the book meant to them. Each school will choose one winner, and then an independent panel will choose one overall winner to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on opening night of the 2012 Series.

The 2012 Avista NAIA World Series "Score a Hit with Reading" program would like to thank the following sponsors for their financial support: Wal-Mart and Spot On Yogurt.
