Sexual
Assault Response Plan and Commitment
|
|
Sexual
assault, including date/acquaintance rape, as well as
allegations of sexual assault is taken very seriously by
Lewis-Clark State personnel. In the event of a sexual assault,
key personnel in Residence Life, Campus Security, and Student
Life/Counseling will collaborate to provide the best possible
support and guidance to the victim.
If you are a
victim of a sexual assault, you are encouraged to take the
following steps:
|
|
1) |
If the
assault occurs in a residence hall and/or you are a resident in
one of the halls, you should report the incident to Campus
Security (792-2226 or 792-2815) and to a residence hall staff
member (e.g., a residence hall assistant or RA).
|
|
2) |
The residence hall staff member
will notify the Director of Residence Life, who will see that
the following actions have occurred:
|
| |
a. Provide
a safe place for the victim and offer emotional support.
b. Provide
an opportunity for the victim to call a friend or relative to be
with her/him and provide emotional support.
c. Inform
the victim of the limits of confidentiality.
d. Encourage
the victim to seek medical care for possible physical injuries,
sexually transmitted infections/diseases, pregnancy tests, and
collection of evidence.
e. Encourage
the victim not to shower before seeking medical attention and to
secure a change of clothing for the post-medical visit.
f.
Discuss the legal
and judicial options with the victim including filing a report
with Campus Security, the local police department, and/or
Student Life.
g. Notify Campus Security, the Director of Student Life,
and the on-call residence hall staff
members.
|
|
3) |
If the assault occurs on campus,
you should notify Campus Security (792-2226 or 792-2815).
Security officers will treat you and your particular case with
courtesy, sensitivity, dignity, understanding, and
professionalism. |
|
4) |
Campus
Security take the following actions:
|
|
|
a.
Meet with the
victim privately at a time and local place of her/his choice, to
take her/his report.
b.
Secure the victim’s
written consent to notify parents or another relative.
c.
Assist in arranging
for any necessary medical treatment.
d.
Assist in securing
emergency housing if needed.
e.
Assist in securing
a friend, relative, or other advocate to be present during the
filing of the report.
f.
Investigate the
case thoroughly, which may involve the assistance of the local
police department (unless the victim wishes to decline the
police department’s involvement in which case a confidential
report would be filed).
g.
Provide updates on
the progress of the investigation and/or subsequent arrests.
h.
Notify the head of
security and the Director of Student Life.
|
|
5) |
Once the Director of Student Life
has been notified of the incident he/she will confer with the
Director of Residence Life (if necessary) and Campus Security.
In addition, he/she will do the following:
|
| |
a.
Notify LCSC staff
counselors upon request of the victim.
b.
Adjudicate the
incident in accordance with the college’s Student Code of
Conduct. |
