Disability Awareness Handbook for Faculty

The Different Disabilities:
What is a mobility impairment and dexterity limitation?

Students with mobility impairments and dexterity limitations have varying needs and issues.  These students, to one degree or another, have ambulatory problems.  Many of these students require accommodations such as preferred seating arrangements and someone to take notes for them.

Dexterity limitations are generally limited to upper body movement and have problems reaching and manipulating objects.  The degree to which a limitation or impairment affects each student varies greatly.  If special furniture is required or other adaptations are needed, contact Disability Services.  Consideration for access issues needs to be incorporated when planning field trips or activities off campus.
