Getting Started

Program Goal

To prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains as required by the U.S. DOT, Idaho State and Washington State Emergency Medical Services Bureaus standards.  

Program Overview

The Paramedic Program is 17 months in duration. Students meet in a classroom on Monday's and Wednesday's from 6pm-9pm.  In addition to the classroom sessions, students are also required to attend field and clinical internships on their own time.  Travel for the internships may be required.  Students are responsible for their own transportation to internship sites and vehicle insurance.  LCSC does not carry health insurance for students.  It is the students responsibility to carry their own health insurance.

Minimum Admission Criteria

Students must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent and have proof of a valid driver's license.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
  • Current EMT Certification
  • Active EMT practice or equivalent for 1 year
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Emergency Care course or equivalent
  • Criminal background check - once accepted into the program and registration fee has been paid student will need to call and make an appointment with Workforce Training to order their background check.

Previously admitted students who have left the program must follow the Re-Entry Policy found in the Lewis-Clark State College Paramedic Program Student Handbook.

Admission to the Lewis-Clark State College Paramedic Program is competitive. These are the minimum standards for inclusion in the application process. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee admission to the program. Contact Lewis-Clark State College-Workforce Training (LCSC-WFT) if you have questions about the admission process.

Application Process

The Lewis-Clark State College Paramedic Program will accept student applications during the summer before a program begins. Please visit the Information and Forms page for specific dates.

The following items must be submitted by the application deadline:

  • Completed application form
  • Resume
  • Course description of A&P course (if other than LCSC-WFT, LCSC, or WWCC)*
  • Copy of High School diploman or equivilant OR official transcripts from all colleges and universities (other than LCSC) attended**
  • References (mailed or faxed to LCSC-WFT)
  • Letter of Intent
  • Copy of valid Healthcare Provider CPR certification    
  • Copy of current driver's license   

The following item must be submitted prior to the first day of class.

  • Criminal Background Check ***

Your application is considered complete when the above items have been received by the Lewis-Clark State College Paramedic Program. Incomplete applications or applications received outside the application windows may not be considered for admission. You will be notified by e-mail if your admission application is incomplete. Admittance to the program is dependent upon passing the background check.

*If you are currently enrolled in an A&P course at the time of application submission, please indicate that on the application form.

**Transcripts can be mailed directly from the college attended and do not have to accompany your application. Please indicate on the application if you have requested transcripts to be mailed to LCSC-WFT.

*** If your background check results are late or found to contain information that is questionable, you may be administratively withdrawn from the program.

Student Application 2014-2016 Program

Acceptance

Applicants will be notified by mail of their admission to the Lewis-Clark State College Paramedic Program. 

After admission, students must provide documentation (photocopies only) of immunizations, current Healthcare provider level CPR card and submit a criminal background check through Certified Background.  Immunizations include: Tdap, Varicella, TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B series (series must be started before classes start) and Influenza.

Students accepted into the program are required to fund additional items beyond the registration fee of $10,000*.  These items include but are not limited to textbooks, immunizations, travel to and from internship sites, uniforms and testing fees.
