Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) enables students to earn college credit for life, work, and special interests experiences through the achievement of the 1-credit Portfolio Completion course.  The student prepares a narrative description of these experiences to demonstrate what knowledge, skills and values have been learned and provides documentation to support academic-equivalent learning outcomes.   Credit for prior experiential learning may constitute no more than 32 credits (25%) needed to complete a bachelor's degree or 16 credits (25%) needed to complete an associate's degree.

Credits granted for prior experiential learning may be used toward a baccalaureate degree in the Management, Communication Arts, Justice Studies, General Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies degree programs or toward an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts.  LCSC has adopted the guidelines established by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges for prior experiential learning.
