Calendar Review

A campus meeting is scheduled on April 22 at 3:15 p.m., in the Williams Conference Center.  The Registrar will present the graduation list for faculty approval at that meeting.

President’s Report

President Thomas is in Boise attending legislative committee meetings focused on facilities bonding, meeting with Governor Kempthorne and the other higher education presidents.

Provost and Vice Presidents’ Reports

Provost:  NASC accreditation visit is scheduled for April 11.  The visit will focus on the recommendations that were cited four years ago.  The five-year interim visit is scheduled next year.   Dr. Phil Backlund is the NASC evaluator.

Administrative Services: LC will be submitting a proposal to the State Board of Education in April for a 9.6 percent increase for residents (75% general budget and 25% in activity fees).  The Board must determine the percentage of increase at the April meeting in order for the institutions to set budgets for approval at the June Board meeting.  The institutions hope to receive guidelines from the State Board at the April meeting.

Student Affairs:

  • Amy Isabelle new Health Services coordinator.
  • Student Health Insurance RFP has been released.    To establish an efficient and effective student health care program, the program will integrate current health services with the mandatory health insurance plan.  Three interrelated teams will accomplish the single goals:  RFP Team (evaluate the RFP responses and make recommendation to the administration), Business Services Team ( define business processes/procedures/practices for both the Controller and Registrar as appropriate), and SHIP and Communications (coordinate all service elements of the student health program).
  • Native American Awareness Week was March 11 through Friday, March 14.   The panels were excellent, but attendance seemed to be lower than past years.

Direct Reporting Units

Athletic Department:   The NAIA World Series will be hosted on campus beginning May 23 through May 30.   The World Series requires the assistance of a tremendous number of individuals to ensure the event is the best possible experience for the nearly 5,000 daily visitors.  The president and vice presidents encourage employees to volunteer and have agreed to a four-hour work release for those who wish to volunteer.  The work release requires prior approval of supervisors.   Approximately 650 volunteers are needed.

Other Reports

PSO:   The Professional Staff Organization recently elected the following new officers for FY04: Dave Taylor, Chair; Jim McCracken, Vice Chair; Traci Birdsell, Recording Secretary; and Karla McCann, Webmaster/Corresponding Secretary. They will take office at the end of the June meeting.

CSO:  Classified staff will elect officers at the employee award luncheon on April 17.

Faculty:  The Senate is working on constitution amendments.  Before the end of the spring semester, a standing

tenure review committee will be elected, emeritus faculty will be approved and hearing board membership appointed. .
