Calendar Review

Calendars for April and May were distributed noting President’s travel and major campus events.

A campus meeting is scheduled on April 22 at 3:15 p.m., in the Williams Conference Center.  The Registrar will present the graduation list for faculty approval at that meeting.

President’s Report

President Thomas attended legislative meetings regarding facility bonding last week.  It appears that bonding is favorable to many legislators.  This week the House approved a proposed tax increase of one-half cent, and the Senate has approved a one-cent increased.  No budget has been determined as yet.

The Workforce Development Council met on campus Tuesday, April 8.  President Thomas gave an overview of LCSC and LCSC’s efforts in providing support to developing Idaho’s workforce and communities.   BSU President Charles Ruch will be resigning from the Workforce Development Council.  President Thomas will pursue membership on the Council.

The Provost Search Committee has submitted recommendations to President Thomas.  She is conducting telephone interviews and will determine who to bring to campus for interviews.  Interviews will begin the week of April 21 and continue through the week of April 28.  The interview itinerary template was distributed.

Provost and Vice Presidents’ Reports

Provost:

  • Recommendations are being received for the Deans positions and interviews will be scheduled very soon.

  • NASC accreditation visit is scheduled for April 11.  The visit will focus on the recommendations that were cited four years ago.  The five-year interim visit is scheduled next year.   Dr. Phil Backlund is the NASC evaluator.

  • Randy Martin has been selected as Chair of the Business Division.

  • Continuing Education is being merged with the Center for Arts and History.  The Center’s director position will be changed to a curator position.  The search for the position will begin soon.  Programming has been developed well into 2006.  A payback plan has been developed for the Center deficit.  The plan will bring focus to the Center for Arts and strengthen the tie between the Center and the campus.

Administrative Services:  Employee contracts will be mailed to employees by mid-May.  Procedures will be initiated on Monday to review and or modify salaries where necessary.

Direct Reporting Units

Athletic Department:  The NAIA World Series will be hosted on campus beginning May 23 through May 30.   The World Series requires the assistance of a tremendous number of individuals to ensure the event is the best possible experience for the nearly 5,000 daily visitors.  The president and vice presidents encourage employees to volunteer and have agreed to a four-hour work release for those who wish to volunteer.  The work release requires prior approval of supervisors.   Approximately 650 volunteers are needed.

College Advancement:  The Foundation Scholars Luncheon on April 4 was a good connection for scholars and donors.

Other Reports

PSO:  There are approximately 80 registrants for Professional Development Day scheduled on April 25.

CSO:  April 17 is the CSO annual luncheon meeting and election of officers.

Around The Table

Planning for the Datatel User Group conference, scheduled for July 23-25, is going very well.

Advertising teams are developing a four-year advertising plan.  It is important to have a well-coordinated and planned advertising.

Idaho Academy of Science is meeting on campus April 10 and 11.

Meeting Adjourned

The next President's Council will be on Wednesday, April 16, at 9:00 a.m., in the Alumni Board Room.
