Provost and Vice Presidents’ Update

Indexing of Student Fees:  The State Board Of Education has requested indexing or benchmarking of student fees.    The most recent discussions have focused on the cost of education and identifying a percentage of that cost for increasing student fees.  The financial vice presidents will meet next Wednesday for initial discussions to exam potential models for student fees indexing.  Some models that will be discussed include:

  • Index that say matriculation portion should be a certain percentage of appropriated funds
  • Examine total education cost and index to that cost
  • Matriculation fee as a percent of non-education costs
  • Inflationary index (using a guideline that will approximate CPI plus a percentage)
  • Market driven index based on peer institution student fees

Indexing of student fess will be a complex issue.  The definition of educational costs is very complex.

The institutions are so different that the fees among institutions could be extremely different.  Mr. Froehlich will update the Council as discussions continue at the state level.
