Provost and Vice Presidents’ Reports

Provost:

On Tuesday, November 25, Jerry Gee, Instructional Dean for North Idaho College, will visit with the LCSC registrar to discuss cross listing of courses.  Divisions are submitting courses believe to be appropriate for cross-listing.

Jerry Gee, Brian Pitcher and Tony Fernandez have met to discuss combined outreach efforts in Coeur d’Alene.  State Board of Education policy requires an eight-year plan for distance learning programs.  The institutions are considering bringing an independent consultant for a needs assessment on workforce development system to continue monitoring the needs in Coeur d’Alene.  North Idaho College is constructing a new facility for Allied Health; it is possible that LCSC could provide the baccalaureate degree program for Allied Health.

According to feedback from the 163 attendees, the first of three economic summits for north central Idaho and south eastern Washington was considered informative and beneficial.  Planning is beginning for the second summit which may be scheduled in the spring.

The Center for Arts and History is hosting one of its annual fundraising events, the Victorian Tea, on December 3.

The first quarter results for the Center for Arts and History indicate an increase in attendance of approximately 200 and admission donations increased by $600.

Gary Mayton provided a brief overview of his November 12 presentation on instructional technology perspective regarding a selective computing platform.   Dr. Mayton emphasized that the faculty wish to be part of the decision regarding instructional technologies and support for those technologies.

Administrative Services:

Avista has planned a power outage on Sunday, November 23.  Work is being completed for the current construction project and work will be done to prevent conditions similar to last fall when the campus experienced an electrical surge shutting down many buildings.  Equipment in offices and labs should be shut down to avoid damage.
