President's Council Meeting Summary

Calendar Review

Calendars for September and October were distributed noting President’s travel and major campus events.   

 

The Idaho Education Forum is scheduled for Friday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. in the TCC.  Senate Education Chairman Gary Schroeder has organized the forums to provide the public the opportunity to comment on education issues.   

 

The State Board of Education will meet on October 2 and 3 in Lewiston at LCSC.

 

 

President’s Report

 

President Thomas will be traveling to Cascade, Idaho on Thursday to attend an appreciation dinner sponsored by the City of Cascade and the Cascade Chamber of Commerce.  LCSC Alumnae Ronald Lundquist is the general manager of the Ashley Inn which is the location of the dinner.

 

 

Provost and Vice Presidents’ Reports

 

Provost: 

 

Provosts and vice president will be reviewing roles and missions of colleges and universities within the state prior to the State Board of Education’s review.  The role and mission statement reflected in the Board policy and procedures manual is an accurate reflection of LCSC.

 

A state-wide satellite conference will be held on Tuesday, September 23, from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m., regarding financing healthcare in Idaho and America.  The LCSC viewing location is the Williams Conference Center.

The conference will focus on the uninsured population and the dilemma for businesses in providing health care coverage.

 

Administrative Services:  

·        Student Fee process for FY2005 will begin soon.  The student fee hearing is scheduled for November 11.

·        The Budget Liaison Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 23, at 3:30 p.m. in the Alumni Board Room.

 

Information Technology: 

 

·        Outside access to My LCSC Intranet has had extremely low hits-- three to five a day.  President Thomas’ directed Information Technology to restrict outside access to the Intranet.

·        The changeover to the new Internet Service Provider is still pending.   Information Technology will provide prior notice of three weeks.   It could take one to two days for the changeover.  The campus could experience an internet outage while programming the DNS servers.  The outage will be planned on a weekend  

·        All MP3 found on the file server will be deleted if the copyrights have not been purchased.   60 song files have been found.

 

 

Direct Reporting Units

College Advancement:   

·        The Foundation has awarded $57,000 in scholarships.  The Alumni Association will begin the telethon this week with the goal of $25,000.

·        Polly Blasko and Jamie White are preparing proposals for Activity Center donations.

·        Polly Blasko will meet with division chairs to determine needs for extra money and points of pride discussions.

·        The Adopt a Seat Campaign is underway

·        Proposals are being developed for Activity Center furniture.  

·        Advancement goal is to meet with 15 businesses and individuals each week.

·        Polly Blasko and Bob Sobotta are exploring possibilities for Native American studies funding.

 

Institutional Planning, Research and Assessment:  Unit Action Plan timelines and planning materials to be distributed by Friday through vice presidents and deans.  

 

 

Other Reports

 

PSO Staff:  First meeting is scheduled for today.

 

Faculty Senate:  A senate meeting is scheduled for September 18.  A handout is being prepared for the education forum on September 26.

 

Classified Staff:  First meeting is scheduled next Wednesday. The CSO Flea Market is scheduled for September 25 at 1:30 p.m. 

 

 

Around The Table

 

Rob Lohrmeyer will attend the Business Technology Park groundbreaking today.

 

The Information Commons lab is heavily used.  The only complaint has been that students have to wait for use.

 

Harriet Huseman is coordinating a master event list.  

 

The Red Lion has provided wireless internet service to the residence area leased by LCSC.
