State Board of Education

The State Board of Education will meet March 7 and 8, 2002.

Student Health Insurance will be discussed at the March Board meeting. Indigent student health care has become an issue in the state. Board member Blake Hall has introduced a proposal for mandatory student health insurance. The proposed student health insurance policy would establish a minimum requirement. Each institution, at its discretion, may adopt policies and procedures more stringent than those provided in the Board policy. It is not likely the proposed policy will be through the approval process in time to be implemented by fall semester.

Idaho Council of Higher Ed

Rob Lohrmeyer reported that the Idaho Council of Higher Education Faculty have been invited to meet with the House and Senate Education Committees on Friday, February 28. In response to the impact of the budget holdbacks, the Council will focus on what higher education will to less of.

Native American Awareness Week

Native American Awareness Week is scheduled March 11-15. Kathy Martin noted that it may be possible to offer continuing education units for some sessions. Dan Regan requested that sessions be made available to colleagues in Coeur d’Alene.

ListServ, All Employee Email and Internet Posting Policy Proposal

Prior to today's meeting, Carmen Rahm distributed proposed guidelines for listserv, e-mail and Internet posting.

Purpose: This policy sets guidelines for use of Lewis-Clark State College-provided tools for electronic communication to the college’s faculty, staff, and students. These guidelines are established to assure consistency in the type of information authorized for general college dissemination, assure that the appropriate technology tool is used, and to set consistent formatting standards.

This policy is not intended to govern use of e-mail or related technology tools for communication with an individual or small group, nor is it intended to establish overall appropriate use guidelines for the college. Those guidelines are provided in the Idaho State and Lewis-Clark State College Appropriate Use of Technology Policies and Guidelines.

Managing the Event Calendar Policy Proposal

Renee Hofeldt presented a model for managing the event calendar. She will prepare the information in policy format and submit it for President's Council review.

Meeting Adjourned

The next President's Council will be on Wednesday, February 27 at 9:00 a.m., in the Alumni Board Room.
