President's Council Meeting Summary

October 31, 2001

 

Present: Dene Thomas, Karen Evans, Dean Froehlich, Chet Herbst, Rob Lohrmeyer, Kathy Martin, Deacon Meier, Rita Morris, Kathy Noble, Whitney Pugh, Carmen Rahm, Dan Regan, Ray Sanders

Absent: Jody Oftelie, Renee Hofeldt

Guest: Harriet Huseman for Renee Hofelt and Jody Oftelie. Ms. Huseman is volunteering twenty hours a week for College Advancement.

 Governor's Executive Order #2001-12

Governor Kempthorne has issued an executive order establishing statewide policies on computer, the Internet and electronic mail usage by state employees. Executive Order #2001-12 replaces and repeals Executive Order #98-05 (copy distributed). The faculty IT advisory group is reviewing the executive order and providing feedback to enhance our campus policy.

Impact of Terrorism on AASCU Campuses

Provost Morris received a memo sent to Chief Academic Officers of AASCU institutions. LCSC is an AASCU institution. The purpose of the memo is to collect information to prepare a report for member institutions regarding the issues institutions are dealing with since the terrorist attack on September 11. Provost Morris asked the Council to review the issues outlined in the memo, and asked if there are issues at LC that are not being addressed.

Strategic Planning Update

President Thomas commented on recent news accounts about the budget holdback and processes underway at the universities. In an attempt to address the informational and emotional sides of the issues, President Thomas is available to meet with constituencies to clarify the processes involved with strategic planning and the budget holdback. The chairs of the faculty, professional and classified staff have scheduled meetings with their constituents. President Thomas requested Council members to review the strategic plan document from last spring prior to the next meeting and to be prepared to discuss merging qualitative and quantitative criteria into the strategic plan.

Moscow High School Visit

President Thomas and Enrollment Management staff met with the superintendent, the principal and counselors of the Moscow High School this week. LC is invited to have a greater presence in Moscow High School.
