2018 March - First Friday Letter

Dear Friends,

A byproduct of our 125th anniversary, which was kicked off with a memorable Flag Raising ceremony on Jan. 27 (video and photos), was a pleasant reminder that Lewis-Clark State College is a very special institution indeed. Yes, we provide students with excellent programs at an affordable price, and have been doing so for a very long time, but we do so much more than that. LCSC gives students opportunity; opportunity to learn, to explore, to lead, and, to succeed. Our good friend, Idaho State Senator Dan Johnson, agrees and he introduced a resolution in late January to honor Lewis-Clark State College. I would also like to thank Representatives Mike Kingsley and Thyra Stevenson for their strong support and for helping tell LCSC’s wonderful story. The full resolution is given below.

WHEREAS, Lewis-Clark State College, established in 1893, is the second oldest public higher education institution in Idaho and has been wholly committed to and has exceptionally served its students, community, region, and the State of Idaho for 125 years; and

WHEREAS, as Idaho’s most affordable four-year public institution with 76 percent of its student body composed of first generation students, Lewis-Clark State College has played and continues to play a key role in making college a possibility for all; and

WHEREAS, the dedication, caring nature, and excellence of its faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters make the educational experience and results at Lewis-Clark State College unique, second to none, and a perfect complement to Idaho’s higher education system; and

WHEREAS, the college boasts excellent programs in both academic and technical fields, including an expanding Career & Technical Education program that is poised to provide increased support to Idaho’s industry and its workforce needs; and

WHEREAS, having seen its enrollment increase by 20 percent over the past 10 years and currently enjoying three straight years of record numbers of graduates, Lewis-Clark State College is one of Idaho’s growing institutions and one with great potential and ambition for future accomplishments and service; and

WHEREAS, Lewis-Clark State College is ranked as the top college in the United States for serving non-traditional students by Best College Reviews and is consistently ranked as one of the five best regional public colleges in the West by U.S. News & World Report,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Session of the Sixty-fourth Idaho Legislature, the Senate and the House of Representatives concurring therein, that we recognize and honor Lewis-Clark State College, for its historical roots, educational accomplishments past and present, and life-long learning opportunities for the students of today and tomorrow.

With excellent students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends, Lewis-Clark State College has experienced a remarkable history, remains strong, and has a bright future. You can learn more about our college in the new LCSC documentary “Defined by Perseverance,” which is available in its entirety on the home page of the anniversary website. I encourage you to view it.

Thank you for your continued support of Lewis-Clark State College.
